Assessment / Pre-Employment
This is the first stage of your involvement with Workability, when the Employment Coordinator and client become acquainted with each other and develop a working relationship.
For most consumers, a work assessment at a realistic workplace is planned to assess the client's abilities, needs and interests. For other clients the pre-employment phase of the program may involve sharing information about how their disability affects them and how best Workability can assist to find and sustain appropriate employment.
The information gathered at this stage of the program is discussed at a meeting with Workability, the client and anyone the client wishes to be present.
Job Search and Development
The skills and needs identified during assessment / pre-employment are used to match a person to an appropriate job.
Workability staff work closely with the client on an employment assistance plan to match the client's skills and interests with a suitable job. The plan is used as a non binding contract by both the client and Workability. The plan outlines the type of work the client is interested in and indicates any special conditions that must be considered when finding suitable employment for the client.
Traineeships and Apprenticeships are available in many employment sectors and offer structured employment-based training, combining practical work experience and off the job training with a Registered Training Provider. Upon completion of either the Traineeship or Apprenticeship, trainees/apprentices receive a nationally recognised qualification. The type of employment you are seeking may have the opportunity for either a traineeship or an apprenticeship and this can be discussed with your Employment Coordinator when you commence with Workability.
Workability use the following methods for jobseeking, the Job Network, cold canvassing, the client's own contacts, our extensive employer database and newspapers. Through successful placements, Workability has built a strong relationship with many employers, which continues to expand.
While Workability provides assistance with jobseeking it is very important that consumers take responsibility for the actions detailed in their employment assistance plan.
Employment Support
Employment support covers all aspects of the job and often includes issues the client may have outside of work that are work related. On the job support includes assisting the client adapt and adjust to their new work environment and co-workers; finding out about working conditions, and actual on the job training. Outside of work issues may include assisting the client with transport routes, motivation to attend work, budgeting and discussing with the client any issues occurring throughout the day.
On the job training is coordinated between the employer, Workability and the client. The employer assists with the initial training and Workability provide any extra training or support required by the client.
Now that the client is employed, an employment support plan is prepared. This plan will detail how the client will maintain their job, and what other support Workability will provide.
On the job support is ongoing until all aspects of the job have been learnt by the client and the employer is satisfied with the speed and quality of their work and how the new employee is fitting in with other workers.
Follow Up
As the new employee gets closer to reaching the required level of speed, quality and integration, Workability staff will gradually reduce their support on the jobsite.
Support after this time consists of less time spent with the client on the job. This may be replaced by a visit to the jobsite, a phone call to the client at home or a phone call to the employer.
Independence
At this stage the client is happy with their job and the employer is satisfied with his or her performance. Workability services are no longer required for on the job support unless the employer or the client makes this request.
A new plan is developed with the client to reinforce their achievements and what they need to do to keep their job. The plan will also suggest what the client can do if any changes happen at work or outside of work.
When a client achieves independence Workability is then able to offer assistance to new clients.
Workability Commitment to Tolerance and Respect
All staff at Workability continually strive for excellence in providing a professional service and at all times, respect the wishes and aspirations of the client.
Through a demonstrated positive and contemporary attitude to people with disabilities, we advocate for tolerance, respect, understanding and encouragement. By so doing, cooperative and positive working relationships are established and strengthened.
