Workability (Em-Tech Inc) acknowledged by The Hon Bill Shorten MP for joining an elite group of 20 large Australian businesses promoting disability employment.

More than 20 large Australian businesses and peak associations have signed a commitment to work with the Australian Government to improve employment opportunities for people with disability.

In a recent Media Statement issued by Bill Shorten, Parliamentary Secretary for Disabilities and Children Services titled ‘Working Together for Ability: A New Commitment from Australian Business, Community and Government Leaders’, says that “building long-term employment for people with disability goes hand-in-hand with boosting productivity and strengthening our community for all Australians. Ultimately, this will help to build a more robust and inclusive society.” It embraces the concept of a Disability Action Plan and includes an undefined “commitment to action.”

The Statement has arisen out a business roundtable that Bill Shorten convenes, with the aim of expanding disability employment by encouraging businesses to employ people with disability, develop Disability Action Plans and purchase goods and services from Disability Enterprises.

The roundtable is a forum for senior business representatives to hear about the role and capacity of the Disability Employment Network and Australian Disability Enterprises, as well as to focus on how barriers to employment within their own organisations can be overcome.
